Cathy Busse was a warrior mom for her Autistic son Sam (14). She lived and breathed EVERYTHING for Sam. She was a wonderful, loving, kind and generous woman who touched everyones lives who met her. She was a part of our Challenger Baseball for many years with Sam and rarely missed a game. At the last game she brought Sam to on Sept. 28th,2008 only 2 weeks before being hit by a drunk driver in Seal Beach, Calif. on Lampson near Seal Beach Blvd, she and Sam were having so much fun, I took lots of pictures that day, God knew there was a reason I took so many of just Sam and mom together, as this would be their last game. Cathy was excited to take Sam on a cruise the following weekend and told me to make sure I brought the pictures for her to see the following weekend, I had told her I was going to Hawaii the same weekend as their cruise and would see her in 2 weeks.Cathy never saw these pictures from that last game..Sadly a drunk driver ran into Cathy and Sam Busse while they were safely on the sidewalk riding their bikes together on lampson near Seal Beach Blvd. Cathy was taken off life support after being detected with no brain activity 2 days later. Sam suffered some cuts and bruises and was released. An only child, Sam and mom were best friends and the love they had for each other and the bond was obvious wherever they were. Please keep in prayer Sam and the family. Children with Autism, weather they speak or not, show affection and they DO know their surroundings (the reason they get overwhelmed and have meltdowns out of their control or act out) even when they can't process their feelings into words, Eye contact and affection they DO HAVE even though many say they don't or cant understand..these photos will prove that theory wrong. Like my son Jonathan, who also has Autism...he is loving and affectionate, a handfull and a challenge... but most of all a blessing. Please pray for and Support Autism Awareness.. if you want to help the family contact Busse Family Needs Trust, St. Anne Catholic Church, 340 Seal Beach Blvd, Seal Beach, Ca. 90740.
Thank you to everyone who has called and supported our Challenger Baseball family.
